Elections Are Coming in October

Elections are coming up at our Healing Connections Fall Conference, October 20 to 21, 2007 at The Founders Inn and Spa in Virginia Beach. They will be held at the Annual Chapter Luncheon meeting on Saturday, October 20. All are welcome to this open meeting, as you do not have to be attending Healing Connections to attend.

We will be electing the Virginia Chapter Board of Directors first Vice President and Chapter Secretary. Terms are two years, running from January 1, 2008 to January 1, 2010. We will be electing 5 delegates plus 2 alternates. Delegate term of office is for one year from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008. These are great opportunities to join a group of fun loving and dedicated massage therapists to support and promote our profession in Virginia.

There are many wonderful returns for being of service with the Chapter. To learn more for the Chapter level, see job descriptions in the Volunteer Section of our website. To learn more for the unit level, see job descriptions in the Chapter Units. If you are interested in a position or in nominating someone, please notify Judy Harris, Chapter Administrator at judyamta@verizon.net or 703 966-3639.

Legislative Day 2007-A Big Success

Seated Massage

On February 7, 2007 an enthusiastic group of VA AMTA members provided seated massage and informational brochures to our Virginia Legislators at the General Assembly Building in Richmond. This was a great opportunity to raise consciousness about the benefits of our work and our profession to those in charge of voting on the bills which affect our livelihood. Many of the recipients commented that they look forward to this event every year. It was welcomed and appreciated.

We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to our awesome members who helped organize and/or offered massages: Becky Bowers-Lanier, Wil Johnson, Lindsay D’Orlando, Aisha Oxendine, Lucia Kaestner, Dianne Rand, Jeff Schlatter, Polly Vaughan and Dee Walsh. We look forward to doing this event next year and hope to get some new faces from all the units in the Chapter.

The first Virginia Massage Therapy Conference was an Outstanding Success.

We hope you were there, but if you missed it, the 2006 Virginia Massage Conference: Healing Connections in amtava last month was an outstanding weekend. Over 130 folks joined in during our two days of education, fun, food, music, and inspiration. We had participants from five states including AMTA members, other massage therapists, and a dozen advanced massage students from the local area. We especially would like to thank Cheryl Chapman, Nina McIntosh, and our own Suzanne Scurlock-Durana for their outstanding educational offerings during this year’s VMTC.

The attendees and the board are of a consensus that we should be offering a similar two-day expansive educational program in autumn 2007 as well. We would appreciate any comments, suggestions, or 2007 topic nominations by any means, including the reply/comment link right below (we have included the first sample for your use).
